This isn't a current litter, but Annie's litter from last Fall. I still have three of these cuties here; all does. I'm keeping one, and selling the other two, which are 87.5% new import blood lines.

Sorry about the title. I usually despise it when people try to get all cute with stuff like this. I refuse to give my rabbits cutesy names like "Hop A Long Bunny" or "Bunnella" (you get the picture). But today is a fun day for kids, and my boys have already found their Easter baskets. They are happily munching on chocolate and not eating breakfast. It's the only day of the year that I let them do something like this, so they enjoy it.

Later today I'm going to visit my Dad, and I'll take my knitting with me. It's time to get cracking on the Basketweave Gansey Cardigan. Anyone want to join me in a Knit A Long?

Marcy and I were discussing stash reduction via e-mail earlier today. I was telling her about my purchase from Elann. I said "So much for stash reduction" and Marcy responded (And I quote) "Personally, I think the phrase is an oxymoron. "

I think she's right. There. I feel much better. :)

BTW, the Tiger Opal yarn sold for $41.00. That helps to pay for my stash enhancement this morning.

Yes, it is her fault. That and the fact that I have No Will Power this morning.

Dharia is in charge of the Ribby Cardi KAL. I've managed to ignore this until this morning. Maybe waking up at 5 a.m., with a completely silent house (everyone else was asleep) was a bad thing. So blog cruising I go. And I find that Dharia has been in charge of this wonderful KAL for this cute little cardigan. And if you go to Ribby Cardi KAL you'll see all the cute sweaters that participants have made, PLUS find out that the yarn is available from Elann at a very cheap price. Yes, I lemminged again. This time buying enough yarn for two of these projects. (Helen bows her head in shame......; well, not really). I had managed to go to Webs yesterday and not spend any money. So instead I buy enough yarn for two sweaters this morning, completely dismissing the fact that I have enough yarn here to knit myself into the next century. Oh well, I'm not all that upset about it. Getting yarn is fun, and I can always sell it at a later date.

And speaking of selling yarn, the last skein of Tiger Opal yarn is up to over $26 on eBay right now. The sale ends in less than 3 hours. I guess I did o.k. buying three skeins several years ago. :)

The Dyson vs. everything else

There is nothing like some nice, calm music with which to start your day.

After a lot of false starts, we finally got Sears last night and purchased a new vacuum cleaner. I have to say that the Dyson came in a very close second to the one I chose, but it seemed heavy and a bit bulky, especially after trying out a canister vac by Kenmore. But, boy, does that machine SUCK (and I mean in a good way). It was able to pull up all kinds of stuff from the carpet. I guess you always go back to what is familiar, and for me, I grew up using a canister vac at my parents home, and find them to be easier to use. Plus, I like the little feature that tells you that the carpet is clean or not. :)

In preparation for Easter, I spent the afternoon yesterday visiting various grocery stores, buying our Easter ham, Easter Kielbasa, strawberries (for strawberry shortcake) and asparagus. I'm cooking dinner tomorrow as my Mom is still recovering from the flu. Yes, she is well enough to cook, but I'm happy to do it here.

And on the fiber front; I've been unable to card anything while my family room is still empty. I doubt we'll get it painted this weekend, and the furniture arrives on Wednesday. But it sure will be nice to be able to sit down and watch tv again. I miss my "Law and Order; SVU".

Keeping a closed rabbitry

The rabbits are all doing well. This burst of semi-Spring like temps has them hopping around with a bit more bounce in their step so to speak. :)

One thing bothers me though. I get a lot of e-mails for people asking about rabbit care, and wanting to come see the rabbits. I keep a closed rabbitry. I do this for the security and safety of the rabbits. When people see rabbits, they tend to want to touch them. Of course, because rabbits are cute, cuddly and adorable creatures. BUT, humans are carriers of many germs. Including those that can make a rabbit sick, like pasturella, and various other germs. I can count on one hand the amount of people that have entered my rabbitry in the past 22 months. I have one person who takes care of my herd while I'm gone; she has no rabbits of her own. My two kids and husband occasionally enter, but rarely, as they aren't that interested in the rabbits. And I've allowed my friend Leslie Samson to enter the rabbitry, as she knows and understands about keeping a closed rabbitry. I even have special barn shoes/boots that I wear when I go out to the barn, that aren't worn outside of my property. Breeders and owners can say that they want a healthy herd. Part of that is not allowing just anyone into your rabbitry. If you want a healthy herd, you need good animals. Some animals will be more resistant to germs than others. THOSE are the animals that you want. Germs will always be a part of any farm; heck, anywhere we live will have germs in it. But you can keep your animals from potentially being made ill by keeping prying hands out of the rabbitry. That is why I keep a closed rabbitry and I hope by this explanation, people will understand why I don't invite them into the rabbitry.

The carpet is in! Now the walls look like crap, but maybe we'll paint them this weekend. DH has Friday off for Good Friday, and the kids have school, so we'll have time where we aren't worrying too much about little kiddos running around.

I'll post pictures tomorrow. Right now I have to get ready to go to a meeting for 7 p.m.

The carpet guys haven't shown up yet. So much for "you are the first appointment of the day".

Anyway, to get back to the rabbits. Mia is due to have a litter of bunnies next week. She has great mothering instincts and had her last litter 10 months ago. I'm not good at palpitating my rabbits to really feel if they are pregnant so I mostly rely on watching how each rabbit exhibits signs of pregnancy. The one thing that happens to almost all does is that they become less mobile in the last week of pregnancy. They also lay around more often throughout the entire pregnancy. Mia has been doing this, so I'm hoping that she "took" with Gewurztraminer. His genetics are ones that I really want to keep in my barn.
